THE natural diva

In an industry where there aren't many 6' tall women, with curvy hips, and skin that's chocolate dipped, I ALWAYS stood out. And each time I entered the convention hall or a meeting room full of colleagues, I could feel the glares. And the entire time, I could hear my mom in my mind saying, "Well if they're gonna look, give them something to look at!" And the Diva always did.

As a pharmaceutical rep, I was often times the only woman of color in the room or even the entire company, so becoming the Diva was easy. I was everything the usual rep wasn't and wore everything they wouldn't...bright colors, bold styles, and heels that elevated me to infinity and beyond. And with a name like Kimba (which means Queen from an East African dialect) I strode into rooms and offices as if I floated in a regal parade. The Diva took on a life of her own, and I learned to use the power of my presence as an advantage to cultivate relationships, build networks, and progress in my career.

Over the next 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry, I began realizing how dangerous the majority of medications were and how so many of us were dependent on the very things that could be harming us. Over the next decade, I began to intentionally focus on preventative health for me and my family, so much so that even in 2012, I was cloth diapering my youngest son, making homemade organic baby food, replacing plastic for glass, and detoxifying my cabinets...while still working a 9-5. I became obsessed with learning about natural remedies, herbs, tinctures, homeopathic medicine, you name it. Now, living healthy and relying on natural food as medicine is a true lifestyle for me, and that’s how the moniker of The Natural Diva was born.
